Floodlights Installation

The installation of floodlights on the block of three courts begins next week after the bank holiday. These courts will be unavailable for play that week while the supplier installs the two columns that will sit within the block. As all the other columns will be fixed outside the block it should be possible for play to continue the following week. As the coaching team are away next week the block of four will be available for general play. 

The installation should be complete after four weeks.

Dear Tennis Members and heartbroken ladies,

Alex Dillon, our longest-serving coach, is finally getting married.

Over the years, Alex has helped us survive many tricky problems and was at the forefront of our transition from a tea-drinking club to a tennis-playing outfit.

With his deceptively relaxed manner, on and off court, it would be easy to forget what a brilliant player and coach he is.

We, the Brondesbury ‘family’ owe Alex a considerable slice of love and thanks, so if you happen to see him before the big day (Tuesday 23rd August) please join me in wishing him and Nicolett every possible happiness for their future together.

2022 Finals Day Results

The club 2022 adult and junior tournament finals were held on Sunday and the day was fabulous. Everyone who attended enjoyed it and watched great tennis while benefitting from the BBQ provided by club member, Sirous Jamalfar.

The day itself along with the organisation of both adult and junior tournamnents owe much to Marina and her coaching team, who umpired the finals.

 
 
 
 

Finals Day: Umpires Needed

2022 Finals Day Schedule

Due to circumstances beyond our control, the advertised charity fund-raising will not take place on Finals Day. We hope to run some events later in the year. 
However, the day itself [this coming Sunday 3rd July] will take place, as usual, with amazing tennis, a delicious BBQ, and tea & cake in the pavilion. 
Please come along and enjoy the fun. Events start at 12, but there is an opportunity for social play before that. 

New Side Gate Lock

A new lock to the side gate has been installed. This is in response to blatant theft of fuel from the storage facility used by the groundsman. It is a code lock. Please email me to learn the code as we do not wish it to be published on the club website.

Also, could you please re-lock the gate after entering and leaving.

 

Earliest Start Times

A Farm Avenue resident was awoken last Thursday, a public holiday, at 06:15 by play on one of the back courts. This is unacceptable. The earliest start time during normal weekdays is 07:00, and 08:00 on weekends and public holidays. 

Finals Day : Sunday 3rd July

Dear tennis members,
    
This is an open invitation to join us on Finals Day and help revive the pre-pandemic ‘family’ atmosphere of the club. Numerous events will be taking place throughout the afternoon, and all funds raised will go to UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees). Obviously the situation in Ukraine is currently foremost in our minds, but there are displaced people suffering all over the world - and UNHCR has the experience and the tools to provide aid in the most effective way.
    
Tournament finals will begin at 12 o’clock and, as ever, there should be some spectacular matches. Tea and refreshments will be available all day, with the addition of a hearty BBQ from 1pm.
    
Other events planned include:
  • Mass warm-up
  • Outdoor yoga class
  • Kids races
  • Great Brondesbury Bake-Off
    
Please keep your eye out for follow up newsletters, where I will clarify events and timings. As ever, we have a day of community to look forward to, and, unlike Wimbledon, everyone is welcome.
