Raising money!

The Clubhouse

A recurring item of discussion by the Board and members is the rather poor state of the Club's main pavilion.  Actually the bar is now looking very nice, but the other facilities are in need of major work.  The Board have begun a review of options to make the clubhouse suitable and attractive for our and the visiting cricket teams, and possibly beyond that to upgrade it to a clubhouse that all the Club members would be proud of and wish to use for a variety of activities.  It will be no surprise that the cost is going to be large, very large or very large indeed - depending on how far we go!  The ideal way forward would be to obtain grants from e.g. Sport England, the ECB, the Lottery Fund.  Is there anybody out there who has some experience of working with potential donors and could help us initially to sound out what the potential is, and then with the detailed application process?  If so (or if you have a couple of million waiting for a good home...) please get in touch with me at [email protected].  I am also happy to hear from members with strong views as to what we should be doing with the clubhouse.

Non-club event on Sunday 5 June

Dear all

The Club's neighbours in Harman Drive and around have a 'street party' planned for Sunday afternoon.  Because of the poor weather that is forecast, the party will now be held around the bowling green and the clubhouse.  (It happens that no cricket match on our grounds is to take place that day.)  Tennis and squash access is not affected, so please don't be put off by the appearance of bunting and quite a few visitors!

Car park closed Monday 11 April

Please note that the car park is to be closed to traffic on Monday while work is done to lay out new markings.  Pedestrian access will not be affected.

Staffing the bar

Dear all

First, apologies for the second sending of the email about treefall - a technical glitch.

We are looking for someone to operate the bar for the Cricket Season (end of April-September).  It would involve approximately 10-12 hours per week, for which we will be paying £10 an hour.  Working days are Friday evenings and Sunday around 4pm-9pm.

If you know of anyone local at least18 years old who might be interested, could you please email details to [email protected] .

Treefall

Unfortunately, Storm Eunice has left its mark on the Club.  The first four conifers, on the left as you enter the car park, have been completely blown over.  Luckily the wind felled them in the direction away from the car park.  A tree surgeon will be on site early on Sunday to deal with the felled trees, so please would members avoid parking anywhere near them while the work is going on, and keep themselves and any visiting children a good distance from the felled trees.

The wind also created carnage amongst the small marquees in the bowling green area.  Please keep yourselves and any children under your care entirely off that area for the time being.

Club Treasurer

Our current treasurer, Marina Heritier, has to give up the position from April this year, once the accounts to the end of March have been agreed.  We are therefore seeking a volunteer to act as Club Treasurer from then onwards.

If you have an understanding of accounts, and especially if you are a qualified accountant, please consider whether you might apply for this role.  Most of the hard work is done by our excellent Operations Manager and Financial Accountant, Svetlana Zinina, but executive responsibility remains with the Board.  As Treasurer you would reassure the Board about our finances and also have a voice in the running of the Club, to the extent that you would be interested to do so. The Board meets four times a year, generally on a weekday evening.

If interested, please email me at [email protected] or call on 07768115072 to explore this opportunity to help and be involved with the Club.

Festive season greetings

Dear Brondesbury members

Wishing all members, staff and coaches a wonderful festive season and a happy and healthy 2021.

We would also like this opportunity to remind members that the Club Pavilion will be closed on 25th, 26th December and on 1st January.
