Bar Staff Required

Dear Members,

We are relaunching Brondesbury Sports Club Bar this Spring and are looking for new bar staff to work evening and weekend shifts starting in early April 2017.

Opening hours will depend on club demands but there are likely to be up to 30 hours of shifts up for grabs each week.

You will be paid £8 an hour and will be provided with full training, so although bar work experience would be preferable it is not essential.
.
Please let us know if you are interested by replying to [email protected]

New Club Secretary

With some friendly encouragement and information from board members I have agreed to take on the role as club secretary and Madeleine Abramson is going to continue as the Neighbour Liaison. The club is deeply indebted to Madeleine's three years in this role, which she executed with energy and professionalism.

To answer a question which some might be asking, my signature shot on the court will continue as usual.

Clubhouse refurbishment

On Monday 6th February for duration of approximately 7 weeks the refurbishment of the club house will commence including works on toilets and shower rooms.

The ladies toilets will not be available and ladies will be able to use the men’s toilet room downstairs instead. We will fix a new lock on the main toilet door on Sunday and it could be locked from inside to avoid any confusion.

We will keep you up to date of the progress.

Club AGM - 4th December 6pm - Agenda and Papers now available

The Club AGM will be on December 4th at 6pm.

The Bar will be open so come along a bit earlier and settle in for the evening...

The Agenda, last year’s minutes, and the Club Accounts, are all available here ( document AGM Agenda 2016 , document AGM 2015 Minutes , document BSC final accounts 2016 ) or from the website under the section Club Documents/AGM. But the main Agenda is also given at the end of this newsletter.

Sadly, I have to report that Adam Lennox is standing down as the Sectional Representative for Squash. Adam has held this position for many years and under his careful direction, the Squash membership has increased to its current level of well over 100 members, and the Section is thriving. There will be a Squash AGM in February and hopefully someone will stand to replace Adam. We need to thank Adam for all the work he has put in to help the Section modernise and do so well.

Also, I have taken on some other work and am therefore resigning as Secretary to the Club. If there is anyone out there who would be interested in finding out what this very fulfilling role entails, PLEASE do contact me. We do not have to elect someone at the AGM, but we do need to get this role filled soon, so that the Club runs smoothly. And if that sounds too daunting - we have many interesting projects in the pipeline, and maybe you would be interested in getting involved in just one of them, rather than being involved in everything. So at least come to the AGM to hear what is going on.

And at least you won’t get so many newsletters for a bit....

Half term Junior Tennis Camps

From this Monday 17th October for 2 weeks until Friday 28th October our Tennis Coaching Team are running half term tennis camps for juniors of all ages. There is still room if you are interested for your children . Further information is available on http://www.brondesburycoaching.co.uk/tennis-holiday-camps/, and booking is online from the same page .

For members generally this means that for the next 2 weeks Courts 4-7 will be used for the tennis camps from 10am - 3pm. Also, there will not be any Adult Coaching programme or daytime Team Training for this period. These sessions will resume after half term, i.e. from Monday 31st October.

Club AGM - save the date - 4th December

This is just an early warning of the date of the 2016 Club AGM, which will be held on 4th December at 6:00pm.

A full Agenda and notice of elections and voting rights will be sent to you nearer the time, but we wanted you to put the date in your diaries.

Apart from reports from each section, there wil be an update on future developments in the pipeline, and an opportunity to discuss what you, the members, want from our club in the next 5-10 years. What vision should we be developing as a sports club??

The Bar is now open on Friday nights only, from 7pm-midnight.

Meanwhile, the work on the cricket pitches has now finished, although there will be more work at a future date to make the cricket nets into an indoor facility, and to tidy up the garage and storage areas. The Tennis mound needs tidying and seeding, and that will be organised soon. The Club is looking at some refurbishment of the Cluhouse, and we will keep you informed about this. But if there is ANYONE interested to help in looking at this, please let me know.

New Cricket Wickets and Nets

Primrose Hill Cricket Club (PHCC) published this newsletter on their website, and we thought you would like to see it.

They have nearly finished their works programme, and we are now looking at removing the garages near the Squash Court and replacing the maintenance garge in the far corner. The 'mound' by Tennis Court 1 will be tidied up,, flattened down further, and then seeded with grass.

It's all happening at Bron

We are delighted to tell you that all is now official in our tie-up with Brondesbury CC.  After a very successful trial season this year, we have now extended our current agreement until the end of 2029, allowing our teams access to the facilities for 15 seasons from this year.

After signing the deal, work has begun this past month to upgrade the facilities at Brondesbury, co-funded by PHCC and Middlesex CCC.

It's been quite a job!

First task  - remove 50 tonnes of waste...
...to reveal 400 sq metres of available land.
Next task -  after much planning and advice...
..lay a new  astro wicket and three new grass wickets.  At last - proper cricket pitches for our U11s, U12s and U13s to play on.

And state of the art nets too...

We have also laid three brand new artificial nets delivered to the highest specification - tarmac underlay, specially sprung bowler run-ups and top grade batting surfaces.

Exclusive Leisure were our contractors and they've done a fantastic job - the tarmac underlay gives consistent bounce for years to come.
Bowlers run-up on a tufted surface used for hockey.  It's harder wearing and sanded to give support to the knees  - extra soil and grass has been laid so William Shingles can come off his long run.

Highest spec batting ends with protector canvas.  Keeping everyone  in the zone  - no distractions from your mate next door.

Bron is on the up

The adult Bron teams have had a fantastic year.  The 1st XI were promoted back into the Middlesex Premier League  - the division they dominated throughout the '80s and '90s and where they rightfully belong.  And the 2nd XI went up too.

Thirteen PHCC players past and present played for adult Bron teams in the season across the 2nd to 4th XI and they all made real contributions   - none more so than Matthew Takavarasha (PHCC 2014) who hit a six and a four in the last over to take the Bron 3rd XI to victory in a must-win final game of the season.

Brondesbury CC 1st XI - we look forward to having some PHCC players there soon.
