Club Projects Status Update

As some of you must have already discovered, we have successfully replaced the surface on the block of four courts. The project included a small element of repair to the underlying tarnmac. The sand, which fills the artificial grass, has yet fully to bed down. The more we play on it the quicker it will even out.

The project to build a toilet facility adjacent to the tennis pavilion is still in the stage of acquiring quotes. We now have two but need three in order to apply for loan and grant funding. I am hopeful that this project will get underway in the next six months. As it involves the building of a drain connection to the main public sewer, the build process will inevitably involve some disruption.

Finally, you might have been aware that last summer our application for planning permission for a new court to be built on the bowling green next to the car park was refused by the council planning committee, despite a strong recommendation by the planning officer. We appealed against this decision and we have just heard from the planning inspector that our appeal has been granted. This project will be on a far greater scale than the toilet facility and will involve commensurately greater funding. The specification includes low-level LED floodlighting and an acoustic barrier to inhibit the transmission of noise to adjacent residents. To accommodate the required extra space for car parking, the car park will be extended towards court 1, leading to the removal of the conifers and some of the soil etc. Because of the need to build up funds for this, I doubt we will be building this until 2020.
