Gwendolen Sorensen

From Charlie Sorensen

It is with a very, very sad heart that I notify you of the passing of
Gwendolen Sorensen. A long-standing member of the Tennis section, Gwen
would be found playing at Harman Drive three or four times a week. Her
undoubted highlight was winning the Ladies Doubles title with her partner,
Molly Prowen. However, she was just as well known amongst the Cricket
section, with son, David, and grandson, Charlie, both representing the
club over the last five decades. Her house in Cricklewood played host to
many a member of the Club after an evening at the Brondesbury Clubhouse,
and she will be sorely missed.
She passed away peacefully last Saturday night. Her funeral will be held in
St Helen's, Lancashire, and anyone wishing to pass on condolences or
attend the funeral may reply directly to this email, where it will be
forwarded on to the family.

From Bob Wright (former club men's singles champion)

Gwen was a loyal member of Brondesbury Tennis Club. For many years, she would be seen playing on the courts at the weekend and - latterly - during the veterans' afternoons midweek. She specialised in doubles, and played for the club for many a year in the Middlesex League. Her regularity of play and accumulation of experience paid off when, with her regular partner, Molly Prowen, she won the ladies doubles club tournament.
All members found her a friendly, sociable woman, willing to help the club with social events. With her son and grandson in the cricket section, she facilitated an easier unity between the different sections of the club. Her cheerfulness and sociability will be much missed.
