Let There Be Lights

Dear All,

Just a reminder that the Lavarello Cup is little more than a week away. On Sunday 13th November, Brondesbury plays host to this world-renowned, yet politically sensitive event. Who can forget how, in 2016, Cricklewood voted to separate itself from the Rest of the World? Feelings were hurt, friendships endangered, and arguments carry on to this day. Nobody disputes what Cricklewood has brought to the world: pub fights, traffic jams and, of course, the inimitable Crickley Rhyming Slang. Some doom-mongers were worried that cutting itself off from a large trading block just across the road would result in higher prices for services and goods. Those fools forgot about the local Co-op and it’s new slogan ‘Here For You For Life’. Hopefully their copyright infringement court case with the local herpes clinic will be successful.

Wherever you stand on the fascinating subject of Crexit, please come along to this floodlit celebration, where we can agree how lucky we are to hit tennis balls and laugh together. All standards are welcome - we will be operating the tried and tested ‘tickle-down’ theory, which means your Captain will massage your legs if his restraining order allows it. Should you wish to enter one of the teams just email me on [email protected]

There will be a creperie food van and a drinks stall on site from 4.30 - 7.30pm. This will serve sweet and savoury crepes, with the possibility of the odd portion of humble pie. Please help the event run more smoothly by ordering/paying for your refreshments in advance:
Adult Ticket £10
Junior Ticket £5
This will buy you 1 delicious crepe and 1 drink to drown your sorrows. Supplies are limited, so look out for Marina at the club - she has the tickets.

See you on the 13th, alternatively you can catch me on ITV’s I’ve Lost My Credibility - Get Me Out Of Here!

** additional events include awards for:
Player of the Year
Most Improved Player
Brondesbury Spirit Award

LET THERE BE LIGHTS!

This newsletter is being resent as some people didn't receive the original.

A celebration of our new floodlights will take place on the afternoon and early evening of Sunday 13th November. Please look out for future newsletters and posters advertising the timings and details of the following events:

3.00pm- Parent/Child Tournament (10&U). Email Marina to sign up.

5.00pm onwards:

Lavarello Cup (11 y/o+)

After the success of the Laver Cup in London last month, the LTA has given us permission to host the inaugural Lavarello Cup. This is a tournament match between Cricklewood and the rest of the World. Teams will be chosen based on address and proximity to the club - should you wish to participate, please contact Matt on [email protected] stating whether you are based in Cricklewood or the rest of the World. If you think you are based anywhere else, maybe contact Angus for counselling. Now that Roger Federer has retired, what have you got to lose … apart from your dignity?

New Lights Weekend Cut-Off

The new floodlights on the block of three courts will cut off automatically at 8:30PM on Saturday and Sunday evenings. This is accord with the terms of the planning permission.

Old Balls Disposal

We have a facility for storing unwanted balls. It's a 'recyclaball' bin to the left of the gate of the block of four courts. Please don't dispose of old balls in the regular bins.

Floodlights Operational

The new floodlights on the block of three courts are now in operation. The control box is on the wall facing the courts near the noticeboard. This will significantly increase our opportunity for play over the winter, particularly midweek. Till now, at most two floodlit courts were available for general play and none when winter league matches were played (the other two were for coaching). From now, at least three courts will be normally available, and at least two when winter league matches are played.

To celebrate this new facility, we'll be holding an event on the late afternoon and early evening of Sunday, Nov 13. More details will be provided nearer the time.
